Essex Wings regional charity for 2010 PDF Print E-mail

The Regional charity for 2010, as voted by the members, is Brainwave.

Brainwave is a charity working with families to deliver home based therapy and exercise programmes that help children with disabilities and developmental delay to achieve their potential. The children they see have a range of conditions including Cerebal Palsy, Down's Syndrome and Autism.

Brainwave works by inviting families to a centre where the child is assessed by the therapists who may be physios, OTs and Cognitive specialists depending on the issues. Then a programme is developed specifically for that child to meet both short and long term goals. These goals can be anything from sitting and walking to recognising numbers and putting sentences together. The family are shown how to undertake the exercises so that they can undertake these at home. They empower the parents to be able to help their children to progress in their development.
